F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is solar technology likely to change dramatically

There may be small incremental advances in technology, but these are not expected to change dramatically any time soon. Most improvements have been around materials used and not in increasing the efficiency of the solar panels..

  • Do I need planning permission?

In most cases, no. Domestic solar panel installations are considered ‘permitted developments’ and don’t require planning permission unless:
– you live in a listed building
– your home’s in a conservation area or an area of outstanding natural beauty. (Panels are permitted in a conservation area as long as they’re not installed on a wall or roof that fronts a main highway)

  • Who will install my new solar PV system?

Square One Electrics use our own qualified and accredited team of installers or subcontractors to install all of our solar PV systems. Our engineers will be based locally to you and will be either directly employed by Square One Electrics or be one of our trusted and long serving partners.

  • Will my Solar Panels will blow off the roof during a storm?

It’s highly unlikely, our Solar PV panels are securely attached using a roof hook and rail system which is designed specifically to withstand hurricane strength winds.

  • Does a solar energy storage battery affect my SEG payments?

If you’ve included an energy storage system in your installation, you can still apply for SEG, but there might be a few rules, depending on your SEG contract. Your battery could store electricity from the grid (known as brown electricity) before exporting it at a later date.
Energy suppliers do not have to pay you for brown electricity exported to the grid but they may choose to do so.
Some suppliers may only pay the SEG for green electricity, i.e. the electricity coming directly from your solar PV system. If this is the case, the supplier may ask you to show how you separate out the green electricity you generate from any imported brown electricity. This is easy to do, and your installer will show you how to do this.
